Needless to say, this month has been a bit much for me. We met with my RE on Monday for the first part of our two day consultations for IVF. Obviously I need to get the migraines in check before starting IVF, because the medication they give me, and hopefully pregnancy being the outcome, is not going to make the hormonal migraines go away but only get worse! Originally I called one neurologist that was a referral from my RE's office and he wasn't available until mid-September. Then I was given a second referral, but she wasn't available until mid-August. I tentatively booked that appointment and figured I'd talk to my RE on Monday.
Monday's consult was pretty boring. We first met with my doctor and went over all the paperwork and signed off on everything. Jim and I both kinda shrugged our shoulders when they asked what to do with our frozen embroys if we both die...LOL , Ummmm, what?? After our meeting with the RE, since we were running ahead of schedule the psychiatrist agreed to see us early. She was really nice and we both enjoyed talking to her. Basically it wasn't an evaluation of our mental preparedness for going through IVF, it was more so a session to outline her role in the office and let us know she was there for us and see what sort of means of destressing we use now. What I found interesting is that she said once I start the stims, that I can't exercise! No problem following that rule!!! Also, if OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome) looks to be on the horizon, and for me its a very likely possibility, then eat some potato chips because for some reason that helps!! Sounds good to me!! After meeting with her, it was time for Jim's bloodwork. NOOOOOOO Bloodwork for meeeeee!!!! YES!!!! :) That totally made my day you don't even know.
Ironically enough I started getting a migraine while waiting for Jim to get his blood drawn. I asked to speak to my RE again while I was there and explained to her that I was getting migraine #6 for the week and begged her to see about getting me in sooner. Well, that did the trick...my appointment is now scheduled for July 13th. Its still a 3 week wait to get into see her but its better than 2-3 months! Plus, if I take it easy and stay inside away from the heat I think I'll be ok.
Today was our medical training class where they go over all the different types of medications and the process that IVF runs. It wasn't until today that I started getting the heeby jeebies about all of this. My course of action goes like this:
225iu Follistim injection
150iu Menopur injection
1-prefilled Lovenox injection
1- prefilled Ganirelix injection
Yes, you read that right, four shots a day <sigh> and the day of the trigger I'll add in an additional shot of Ovidril. This is so much to take in its a bit overwhelming, however, its only 8-12 days and then I'll be done and onto the egg removal. Which leads me to my next point...
So as it stands now, I'm waiting 3 weeks to see the neurologist. Depending on how long it takes her to order me an MRI and view the results and come up with a plan of action for me, I'm imagining that I'll be on my stims by end of July/early August so it'll be a nice birthday present to me, haha. I'm anxious to get things underway but with my friend's wedding that I'm standing up in in May, I'm actually glad we have a little more time so that I'm not near delivery when I'm walking down the aisle, haha!!
Ok, well thats about all I have to say today. If anything else interesting pops up I'll be sure to update my blog otherwise, I'm probably going to be on a 3 week break until my neurologist appt.
TTFN!!
